Melon Smashing Fail

Monday 5th January, 2009 Category: Humour

More fail today, with this Dutch guy trying to break a record for smashing the most watermelons with his head in 2 minutes. Unfortunately, he gets off to an eye-wateringly bad start!

His initial embarrassment quickly turns to panic as he realises that he must break some watermelons to avoid further humiliation, and so we watch and laugh (and wince) as he repeatedly pummels his skull into melons harder than concrete blocks, through grunts of desparation and pain.

Amazing Images Not Photoshopped

Sunday 4th January, 2009 Category: Weird and Wonderful

Not Photoshopped

Cracked presents a collection of amazing images that you would expect to have been Photoshopped, but are completely genuine. Some you may have seen before, but they are always fascinating to see again.

The crab scares the living shit out of me, but I particularly like the look of the crazy Japanese pizza which is topped with peas and mini burger patties, plus a 'pigs in blankets' stuffed crust!

Double Fail

Saturday 3rd January, 2009 Category: Humour

You think you've seen the obvious fail when the guy falls off the motorbike, but then there's more...

Ouch (and by that I mean the damage to the camera he was carrying).

Merry Christmas

Wednesday 24th December, 2008 Category: Miscellaneous

Today is Christmas for my family. On the 24th we have a nice dinner and then open presents and generally hang out together until late (as kids, we always had our presents before anyone else). My mum is German/Danish, so this is a tradition she has brought to the family, but we also celebrate Christmas Day in the traditional way. Double whammy.

I wrote this post in advance because I knew I'd be too busy on Christmas Eve, so from everyone here at MTG (uh... me and my laptop), have a great Christmas.

Artificial Christmas Spirit

In case you're feeling a little lonely and happen to be spending Christmas Eve on your computer (or perhaps you're just a nerd) here is some web-based Christmas spirit, to get you in the mood to go and socialise with your friends or family...

Girl Plays Awesome Songs on Crazy Keyboard

Monday 22nd December, 2008 Category: Music

I only know her as YouTube user ameri1122, but she is an 11-year-old Japanese girl who plays epic songs like a one-man band. Using the most complex-looking keyboard I've ever seen, she plays all the parts at once.

YYZ by Rush

This is amazing! She plays everything - the guitar, bass and keyboard parts. She could duet with Neil Peart and they could just get rid of the rest of Rush.

I had to do some research and find out exactly what sort of keyboard she's playing, and apparently it's a Yamaha Electone ELS-01C. This appears to be some sort of über synthesiser available only in Asia, which has 2 keyboards, a pedalboard, and roughly 6 million buttons.

Earth Impact Effects Program

Earth Impact Effects Program

Scientists at the Lunar and Planetary Lab of the University of Arizona have created an interactive web page that allows you to calculate the environmental effects an asteroid would cause if it were to collide with Earth.

Simply input certain parameters, such as the projectile size, velocity and impact surface, and the program will estimate the outcome of such an object hitting Earth. This includes the size of the impact crater and resulant fireball, as well as the loudness of the explosion and strength of seismic shaking.

1930s Parkour

Sunday 21st December, 2008 Category: Cool Stuff

This video shows a stunt man (or rather a general thrill-seeker of some sort) engaging in crazy parkour-style antics. Apparently fuelled by his mother's spaghetti, he proceeds to perform some amazing stunts.

It would seem that David Belle, generally regarded as the founder of parkour, may not have been the first person to start popularising the urban activity afterall!

Words That Sound Offensive But Aren't

Wednesday 17th December, 2008 Category: Humour

Non-Offensive Words

The words on this list sound quite rude but are all in fact harmless, with completely acceptable meanings. Of course, this still makes them completely useless for daily conversation unless you fancy being outcast by your friends and family.

Penetrate

Then again, there are plenty of common everyday words that have been corrupted, and cannot possibly be spoken in public without most people's brains beginning to process them like an immature schoolboy (complete with accompanying imagery).

Bush. Erect. Vibrate. Moist. List your rude-sounding non-rude words in the comments!

Japanese Treadmill Challenge

Saturday 13th December, 2008 Category: Silliness

As everybody knows, Japanese game shows are... unique. You'd never find our Western world TV stations allowing us to enjoy such wreckless regard for human wellbeing.

The apparent lack of Japanese health and safety regulations is admirable. The fact they clearly design the games to maximise the potential for pain and humiliation is impressive. That their viewers don't feel the need to complain is even more so.

Treadmill Challenge

The object of this game is to run to the end of the giant treadmill. For some unknown reason (there seldom seems to be a reason in these shows) they must collect and eat four cookies along the way, which then speeds up the treadmill each time.

They look hilarious running along at full speed but not actually moving anywhere, desperately trying to keep their legs from getting sucked away beneath them.
